31 Jan 2019 Superbowl | Budweiser Clydesdales Are Back! | Berning Marketing
We know that the 2019 Superbowl is going to be a sore subject for all of us here in New Orleans. Some in New Orleans are even planning a parade for The New Orleans Saints to be held during the Superbowl. For those of you that will be watching The Superbowl, get ready to see the beloved Budweiser Clydesdales this year in a new commercial. It has us wondering, what is the story behind the Clydesdales and what does it all mean?
After ditching the feathered horses last year for a more socially-conscious commercial, the American beer brand is reviving the stars of their commercials. Budweiser released a ten second clip of their Clydesdales strutting with the text “Guess who’s back.” But why are Clydedales synonymous with the Budweiser brand?
The Budweiser Clydesdales made their first-ever appearance on April 7th, 1933. They were a gift from August A. Busche JR. and Adolphus Busch to their father in celebration of the reap of Prohibition. The Clydesdales have even been featured in Presidential Inaugurations! This year, Budweiser will bring them back the sound of Bob Dylan.
Having a commercial during the Superbowl is always the best for exposure since so many people are tuned into their television. In fact, many people highly anticipated the commercials that are aired during the Superbowl. Budweiser is using their Clydesdales to reinforce their brand, but the message behind the commercial is all about sustainable energy. With Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” playing in the background, Budweiser is advocating for their energy sourced from wind farms.
“It brings a powerful message about our commitment to brewing with renewable electricity.” said Ricardo Marques, VP of marketing at Anheuser-Busch. They launched their public global sustainability goals over a year ago and they intend on sticking with it.
