AARP knows that life as you grow older just gets more beautiful. As a United States-based interest group that focuses on the elderly, especially on how they can continue to live well after retirement, they host many events. In 2016, it had a membership of over 37 million people. In 2012, AARP hosted an event entitled Life @ 50 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Berning Marketing and Productions was proud to produce this video to promote such a special event.
20,000 AARP members attended in New Orleans on Sept. 20 for the annual Life@50+ National Event & Expo, seven years after AARP was forced to cancel a national event in the city in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
As a celebration of the Big Easy — the schedule was jam-packed with music, tours, speakers and more — as well as an opportunity for convention-goers to volunteer in parts of the city still recovering from that terrible storm
Saturday night, two rocking performances by Stevie Nicks, Gladys Knight and Melissa Etheridge lit up the stages, while during the day Hoda Kotb and chef Emeril Lagasse talked about how the city has influenced Lagasse’s life and cooking; James Carville and Mary Matalin, famous New Orleans residents and political junkies, debated the upcoming election; and a reunion of cast members from the epic miniseries Roots spoke on its legacy.
On both Friday and Saturday 60 “university and lifestyle” sessions were offered that provided educational materials on everything from caregiving to Social Security with exhibition booths related to health and wellness, financial planning, travel and technology. Experts taught visitors how to use Skype, Facetime or an iPad. Additionally, there were music classes, with guitars and ukuleles to try, local chefs offering cooking demonstrations and the best local bands providing the soundtrack.
